SimonB on Josh Winiberg
You probably haven't heard of Josh Winiberg yet - but don't worry - I predict you soon will have.
Josh's writing has a maturity stretching way beyond his tender 16 years and he is without doubt, one of the most exciting new composers to emerge from the UK.
His eclectic influences range from Bach, Chopin and Phillip Glass to Ludovico Einaudi, Michael Nyman and Keith Jarrett and the breadth of his instinctive musical literacy is staggering. This is a young man with an promising musical future ahead.
Sunrise is a collection of piano solo pieces composed by Josh between the age of 15 and 16 - BUT don't let this young age put you off.
Whilst this album works as background music creating a mellow, peacful atmosphere the tracks all stand up to closer musical scrutiny.
Perhaps it's not surpsring then that having heard this young man's work via his website , the director of the prestigous Ravello Festival invited him to play this August.
If you're after relaxing, mood enhancing, chilled music, then give Josh's stuff a listen. He has a website at www.joshwiniberg.com where you can check out samples.
