Words of Tione: Parallel / O2 / Shoot Ahead
The Essex 3-piece Words of Tione have only been playing together a
short while and it would appear apparent on this selection of meagre
rock tunes. There is a very hushed, sparse, minor key feel to these
songs which sounds like it's aspiring to be Muse, but lack the force
to do so. The opener ‘Parallel’ juxtaposes minor-key clean guitar with
intermittent bursts of fuzz before moving into a bare minor key coda.
‘Shoot Ahead’ offers respite from the musical desolation with more of
a breezy tone to it but when all is said and done it looks like Words
of Tione need time to grow together for now. Melancholy yup, poignant
nope. |

Waylaid
Is it Waylaid, or is it Radiohead? I am sure these guys won’t be disappointed with the comparison. Who would be?
This CD has the real demo quality production/ sound that you get from a recording early in your musical development, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It is sometimes better to hear music in this state.
I’m struggling to get in to the unbroken sound, until track 3 kicks in. I think this is more like it and again track 4 starting with more of a ‘single vibe’. Track 4 suddenly sounds like a new band. My recommendation would be stick this track first, but that’s just personal taste. Nice one guys – keep it up, and make sure you send us anything new. We look forward to it.
